The dream for Discover Church began in the summer of 2008 in the hearts of Mike and Wendy Evans.  Mike was happily serving at a wonderful church in Wichita, KS, when the vision to begin a new work to help people find and follow Jesus in the Kansas City area just would not let go.  As they began to get serious about considering this transition, a connection was made to The Heartland Project, a church planting organization proved that Mike and Wendy were on the right path.

It became clear after many months of research, prayer, meeting with community leaders, and trips to Kansas City that the place for this church to begin would be in the community of Lee’s Summit, MO.  Mike and Wendy, along with their four kids and yellow lab, packed up and moved everything they had.

According to Mike; “The greatest thing about this journey has been in seeing dozens of people gathering around us in pursuit of this vision!  We are a group of ordinary people – teachers, architects, moms, dads, builders, bankers, connected to an amazing God, with a dream to connect others to Him.”

We know that for many folks that the word ‘church’ does not inspire positive thoughts.  The church is not a perfect place, and Discover Church certainly doesn’t claim to be perfect by any stretch of the imagination.  But what we are is a fully committed group of followers of Jesus who are striving to help people, to serve our community, to be relevant and hopeful agents of change.  The way that happens is to connect people to our amazing God, to grow together in relationships with each other, and to serve our community and world with hearts of compassion and love.
